Draft agreement on registration of industrial designs introduced in the State Duma

Ratification of the Geneva Act of Hague Agreement will allow the Russian engineering centers to register abroad their industrial designs.

The official website of the Russian Cabinet has posted the news also reporting that the bill was considered and approved at the meeting of the Russian Government on October 27, 2016.

The ratification of this international instrument will simplify the procedure of obtaining legal protection for industrial designs abroad and is expected to positively affect the levels of safety and protection of intellectual property.

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Industry are currently implementing a pilot project for the establishment and development of engineering centers on the basis of universities. As part of the project, the engineering centers have already created products and services, competitive in the world marketplace. The participation of Russia in the Agreement will allow the engineering centers to register abroad their industrial designs.

Russia signed the Geneva Act in 1999, after its revision in the framework of the Diplomatic Convention in Geneva. The document came into force in 2003. More than 50 countries and international organizations ratified the Geneva Act at the present time.
